NTA Parents Speak Out Before Today’s Court Hearing

WHAT: Parents and community activists will gather outside Daley Center to rally support and speak out before attorneys argue their motion for a preliminary injunction to halt the unjust closure of National Teachers Academy (NTA). Attorneys will also argue against CPS's motion to dismiss the complaint.

WHERE & WHEN: The press conference will start at 1:30pm outside the Daley Center (50 W. Washington Street), on the south side of the building. 

The court hearing will begin at 2:30 p.m. in room 2402 of the Daley Center.

BACKGROUND: This July, parents and community groups from NTA filed a lawsuit alleging that CPS violated the Illinois Civil Rights Act and the Illinois School Code when it decided to close and convert NTA into a high school.

NTA is a Level 1+ elementary school that stands at the site of the former Harold Ickes Homes. Around 80 percent of NTA students are Black, and 76 percent are low-income.

CPS's plan to close NTA discriminates and poses unacceptable risks to its students, many of whom have already suffered academic displacement at CPS.
