Nominate Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights
Cy pres awards are funds that are unclaimed, unallocated and undeliverable to class members or beneficiaries from a class action case settlement. Since these funds cannot be distributed, courts are allowed to distribute residual funds to charitable causes and nonprofit organizations.
Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights is an appropriate beneficiary for these awards.
We are a leading nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to securing racial equity and economic opportunity for all. For more than 55 years, we have harnessed the power of the law by partnering with the private bar and community-based organizations to advance civil rights.
With the support of cy pres awards, we can expand our work representing students facing excessive discipline in schools, support more individuals and families facing housing discrimination, and continue the important work of our settlement assistance program connecting volunteer attorneys to individuals who file civil rights lawsuits without counsel.
