Julián Castro to Headline Annual Benefit for Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights

CHICAGO – Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro will deliver a keynote speech on October 2 during the annual benefit for Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, Bring Justice Home.
Secretary Castro will discuss Chicago’s challenges and racial disparities fifty years after the federal Fair Housing Act, as the city weathers a tumultuous political season kindled by the trial of police officer Jason Van Dyke and a turbulent mayoral race. His forthcoming memoir, An Unlikely Journey: Waking Up from My American Dream, is due to be released in October.
Bring Justice Home will take place on Tuesday, October 10 from 6:00pm – 9:00pm at Theater on the Lake (2401 N. Lakeshore Drive, Chicago IL).
The event will be emcee’d by broadcast journalist Lisa Parker of NBC 5 Chicago and will feature poetry readings by local young performers with Kuumba Lynx. Congressman Luis Gutiérrez and Cook County Board Commissioner Jesús Chuy García are expected to attend, among other public officials.
