Trained Volunteers Will Answer Calls and Monitor Polls on Election Day
Indiana voters can call the toll-free, nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) for assistance or to report issues

May 7, 2024: Throughout the day on May 7th, legal volunteers trained by Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights will take calls on the non-partisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE and answer questions from voters as they cast their ballots in the Indiana Primary Election. Volunteers trained by Common Cause Indiana will also serve as nonpartisan field volunteers in Central Indiana. Polling places will be open from 6am to 6pm local prevailing time on Election Day.

Ami Gandhi, Director of the Midwest Voting Rights Program at Chicago Lawyers’ Committee states, “Our main priority with the nonpartisan Election Protection program is to ensure that every eligible voter is able to cast their vote. Hoosiers can call the hotline with any questions or issues. By assisting voters with this information, we can make sure they have fair access to the polls and can participate in our democracy.”

Chicago Lawyers’ Committee is working closely with the national Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Kirkland & Ellis LLP, and Taft Indianapolis to coordinate the legal program for Election Protection in Indiana. Additionally, Chicago Lawyers’ Committee partners with Common Cause Indiana to help send volunteer attorneys to polling locations across Central Indiana

Today, the national Election Protection program’s suite of resources includes hotlines and voter protection field programs with well-trained legal volunteers, and digital outreach tools.
