Federal Reserve Board Nominates Chicago Lawyers’ Committee Staff Attorney Renee Hatcher to Participate in National Community Leaders Forum

February 27, 2014, Chicago, IL – The Federal Reserve Board, along with the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, have nominated Chicago Lawyers’ Committee’ Staff Attorney Renee Hatcher to participate in its Community Leaders Forum. The forum, taking place on March 5th and 6th at the Federal Reserve in Washington, D.C., aims to address social and economic issues facing communities around the country.
Hatcher is one of 13 selected leaders in the community development field to participate in the spring Community Leaders Forum, representing both national and regional perspectives. The selected participants will discuss a range of issues facing communities around the country, including the many challenges of homeownership in post-recession underserved communities, and creating equitable local economies.
The Forum’s purpose is to test ways for the Federal Reserve to support rising community leaders and to better understand the implications of emerging trends in underserved communities. By encouraging peer-to-peer learning, the Federal Reserve hopes to improve the community development field, increase its understanding of emerging trends, and reduce the negative impact of such trends on underserved consumers and communities. In doing so, the Federal Reserve hopes to create a network of leaders that will improve the research, policy and practice of community development and support the progressive agenda of the Federal Reserve.
Hatcher’s nomination comes after a successful year of economic development efforts in Northwest Indiana. As Staff Attorney with the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee since 2011, Hatcher spearheads the organization’s Initiative for Northwest Indiana (INWIN). INWIN supports a dramatic vision for redevelopment in Northwest Indiana by providing pro bono legal services to small businesses, entrepreneurs, community groups, local agencies, and individuals interested in expunging their criminal history to strengthen the regional community and create better opportunities for its citizens. Since its inception, INWIN has served 52 small business owners, 28 nonprofits and 74 individuals seeking expungement.
Hatcher received her Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law; and received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Management with a minor concentration in Leadership, Ethics, and Social Action (LESA) from Indiana University- Bloomington.
