Illinois Receives an “F” in Funding Distribution in Making the Grade Report

The Education Law Center releases a "Making the Grade" report every year, and this year Illinois received an "F" in funding distribution.

This means, although we received the minimum increase set out in the Education-Based Funding Act (EBF), funding in our state remains overly driven by property taxes. This results in funding that is disproportionately concentrated in already well-resourced communities, while under resourced districts are left to operate with less.

Our state legislators need to be held accountable for not meeting the promise of EBF. Illinois families can’t wait decades for fully funded schools.
